Pilbara Meta Maya Regional Aboriginal Corporation is an Aboriginal organisation with responsibilities to provide Essential (Power and Water) and Community Services (Environmental Health, Case Work and Housing) to remote Aboriginal communities across the Pilbara, Gascoyne and Mid-West regions of Western Australia. We also provide asbestos and hazardous material testing and construction in Perth in the Pilbara Meta Maya Environmental arm of the business.

As part of the community services offering, Mirnutharntu Maya is 48-bed facility providing serviced accommodation and culturally appropriate support services for predominantly Aboriginal people who are undertaking education, training, apprenticeships and employment in the Pilbara region. 

The Case Worker is responsible for developing co-operative working relationships with external agencies and providers to optimize client service delivery, while providing advocacy services and referrals as required.

This is a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2024, with the opportunity for it to be extended a further two years. The position is based in South Hedland and paid accommodation is available onsite for the right candidate.  

 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Communicate effectively with clients and colleagues, including those from diverse cultural backgrounds and linguistic needs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients and colleagues based on respect and trust.
  • Provide effective case management services through individualised assessment and support services to individual students and/or their families, aimed at reducing barriers to education and building positive engagement.
  • Update and maintain policies and procedures relating to case management to ensure they remain contemporary and legislatively compliant.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client information and case notes on the program database.
  • Work sensitively and respectfully with parents, family members, child or young persons, and a range of other services, to develop safety plans and undertake risk assessments.
  • Work collaboratively with culturally diverse children, families, and communities.
  • Make referrals or introductions to other agencies and scheduling and escorting individuals to appointments.

About you:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Youth Work, Welfare Studies, or related fields and demonstrated experience in working with young people who are vulnerable
  • Prior experience and demonstrated knowledge in family support and complex case management.
  • Working with Children Check (WA)
  • Drivers licence
