Your Opportunity
Staying Home Leaving Violence (SHLV) is a specialised domestic and family violence program for women 18 + (children are also supported) who have separated from a violent partner/family member, & choose to remain in their home or another home of their choice, in Far West NSW.
The program highlights the victim’s housing stability, preventing them from being homeless. SHLVV is a SHLV is long-term, needs-based program which integrates with other agencies including police, Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Services, health services, Housing NSW, and other community supports. Priority for accessing support is given to women where circumstances make it more difficult to access support for victims.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Provide safety planning and case management strategies to women and children affected by and escaping DV
- Assist women to remain separated from a violent partner through addressing barriers
- Assist women to maintain stable accommodation and control of their finances
- Facilitate clients’ access to the court system to obtain effective legal protection
- Assess each stage of the process – client’s needs for legal and social/welfare assistance and facilitate access to these services
- Support clients to remain safe and free from violence in their own home
- Complete administrative duties for the efficient running of the service (statistics, reports, referral letters, goal plans and data entry in CRM)
- Ensuring Mission Australia’s values are upheld in the workplace at all times
Requirements for Success
- Understanding of Domestic & Family Violence, its complexities and consequences, particularly as they affect Aboriginal Women and Children, and sensitivity to their needs;
- Knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice response to Domestic & Family Violence;
- Ability to work with local Aboriginal communities and the broader community to promote awareness of Domestic & Family Violence;
- Good communication skills, particularly in negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution;
- Good networking skills; and
- Good organisational and administrative skills
- Current NSW Driving Licence
- Evidence of Current Covid 19 Vaccination
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
