What you’ll do

  • Work with 7-11 families at any one time (calculated on employed hours) maintaining regular face to face contact, ensuring practice is informed by child protection risks and the families progress on their project/s.
  • Work within the service provision guidelines and Thriving Families, SDN’s Family Centred Framework by maintaining a focus on child wellbeing outcomes
  • Engage in a way that aligns with the Thriving Families behaviours and principles in everything you do.
  • Provide flexible and responsive services to families, visits are based on need
  • Make independent decisions relating to the day-to-day work with children and families, with reference to the Team Leader where appropriate.

As part of our Family Preservation team, you will connect with colleagues across the metro program and wider child and family programs to deepen your knowledge and skills. You will also be supported by the SDN Village to welcome diversity of thought into your practice.

Who you are

  • University qualifications in social work or equivalent.
  • Experience of working within a community services and / or child and family sector.
  • Demonstrated commitment to child focused practice, well developed understanding of Child Protection practices, a sound understanding of legislation and an ability to effectively assess, prioritise and manage risks to child wellbeing.
  • Experience working with vulnerable and complex children and families including those from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Supportive, tactful, and empathetic nature with the ability to make clear judgements that promote the rights, interests and wellbeing of children.
  • Eagerness to learn and seek diverse feedback on clinical decisions and practices and experience in applying constructive criticism to modifying practice.
  • A current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check.
  • NSW Driver’s licence.
  • Excellent relationship building, negotiation and influencing skills with experience working with a range of stakeholders including schools, NDIS providers, government, and community groups.
