Caseworker 

FAMILY SAFETY & SETTLEMENT SERVICES

The Australian Refugee Association Inc. (ARA) is a community-based organisation providing settlement, migration, and other forms of assistance to refugees, migrants and other people of concern. As a member of our team, you will be supporting new arrivals in South Australia to achieve their social, economic and community participation goals. You will be making a difference in the lives of individuals and families as they re-establish themselves in a new home. 

ARA is seeking to appoint a Case Worker to provide casework services and support to new arrivals from Afghan backgrounds. The Case Worker will also be responsible for following established casework and case management practices to enable clients to overcome ongoing settlement and health challenges. The Case Worker must be able to speak Dari and/or Hazaragi and understand a range of cultural and settlement challenges for refugees as well as provide a positive and encouraging attitude in the delivery of services.

The Case Worker will be responsible for:

  • Providing casework and case management support for clients from Afghan backgrounds to enable clients to overcome settlement challenges.
  • Providing information, education, and practical assistance to clients, and developing appropriate case plans for clients.
  • Developing and undertaking appropriate referrals to specialist service providers.
  • Advocating for clients’ needs and requirements.
  • High level case noting and reporting to supervisor and managers. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • A minimum of Certificate IV or Diploma in Community Services or other relevant qualifications and   experience in a similar area.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with relevant agencies and external service providers.
  • A general understanding of the challenges faced by people from CALD backgrounds.
  • Case work experience with the ability to development of case plans and referral pathways.
  • Valid Police Clearance and Working with Children Check (or be willing to obtain before commencement of employment).

 

The successful candidate will receive ongoing support from a diverse team and access to ongoing professional development opportunities and will form part of ARA’s growing Settlement Team.

This is a full time at Level 2 position of the SCHCDS Industry Award until January 2025 with the possibility for extension.
