JOB DESCRIPTION

Caseworker – Generalist Role

Upper Hunter Homeless supports clients from the Upper Hunter region, from Singleton to Merriwa and Murrurundi.  We have recently restructured our team and have created a new caseworker role for up to 30 hours per week.  Candidates looking for part time options are encouraged to apply.

Our caseworkers provide support, advocacy and information to assist young people, men, women and families at risk of, or experiencing homelessness, working within a case management framework appropriate to the individual needs of the client.   This role also involves support for people escaping family and domestic violence.

Work in this position requires a casework and client support skills, plus a commitment to team values.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential 

  • Qualifications in a relevant discipline (Cert 1V or above) and/or demonstrated relevant professional experience in the Community Services Industry working with clients from diverse backgrounds using ‘best practice’ client centered casework techniques. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills,
  • Problem solving skills – resolve conflict and negotiate to achieve best outcome for clients.
  • Ability to network and build strong rapport with community stakeholders.
  • Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and client software systems.
  • Demonstrated high levels of integrity, resilience and flexibility.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • NSW Working with Children’s Check; clear Criminal Record Check, current Driver’s License; current First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain.
  • Time management and organisational skills.

Desirable 

  • Previous experience working with people at risk of and experiencing homelessness.
  • Previous experience working within the SHS guidelines.
  • Understanding of the “Going Home – Staying Home” principles.
