Queensland Corrective Services are seeking an experienced senior leader with proven expertise in managing the First Nations and Cultural Capability strategy across our agency.

About You

You are a driven and professional leader with lived-experience, knowledge & understanding of First Nations cultures & identities, & possess a passion for sharing that knowledge across a large and complex organisation.You are motivated to advocate for & improve the outcomes of First Nations peoples in our care & under our supervision through the delivery of innovative, culturally safe, & evidence-based strategies. You possess demonstrated experience in leading partnerships with stakeholders.You have a demonstrated, executive level ability to lead a small, high performing team in a complex & ambiguous environment in line with the QCS values of professionalism, integrity, accountability, & innovation.You have demonstrated success in strategic planning & achieving change, through highly developed interpersonal & negotiation skills, relationship building & collaboration.

 About the role

The Chief Superintendent, First Nations and Cultural Capability is a member of the senior leadership team & the leader of the Murridhagun Cultural Centre within the People Capability Command. The Command is responsible for supporting & assisting the organisation to achieve its long-term strategic objectives & for developing an effective & high-performing workforce of over 6,500 employees.
In this position you will play an integral role in developing, consulting on, & promoting strategies & initiatives that support the best interests of First Nations peoples, including QCS staff, people under our care & supervision, & those in communities across Queensland.

In this role you will:

– Provide system-wide, culturally safe strategic leadership in shaping Queensland’s First Nations justice agenda to contribute to reducing the incarceration rate of First Nations peoples.

– Collaborate with key stakeholders, First Nations communities, Community Justice Groups, and government & non-government organisations to ensure a coordinated approach to current issues.
– Strengthen & support the First Nations workforce.

– Provide expert & lived-experience advice to the Minister for Corrective Services & the Commissioner, QCS on justice & policy matters.
