About the Role 

The Child and Family Advocate assists children and families to access services and supports them to participate throughout the post disclosure process of investigation, prosecution, and treatment.  The Child and Family Advocate provides advocacy services and therapeutic supports as appropriate within a therapeutic and counselling relationship and will collaborate with government service providers and community partners to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people.

This role is offered on a Permanent, Full-Time basis, and we currently have two vacancies for this role that we would be looking to fill. One would be based in Armadale, and one at Midland, which will be advertised separately.  

As a Child and Family Advocate, your duties and responsibilities will be: 

  • Maintain proactive contact with young people and families throughout involvement with the Child Advocacy Centre on an as needed basis,
  • Advocate and promote wishes, thoughts and opinions of children, young people, and families, providing choice of interventions and services and provision of referrals as required,
  • Provide ongoing liaison, negotiation, consultation, and relationship building with Multi-Disciplinary Team members including interviewers, WA Police, Department of Communities, Family Support Workers, Therapists, Educational staff, medical staff, and other key stakeholders.
  • Undertake and produce written reports on the comprehensive holistic assessments of children, young people, and their families to develop Individual Care Plans, inclusive of risk assessments and mature minor assessments.
  • Participate in Multi-Disciplinary Team Case Review meetings, facilitate case tracking processes and development of Individual Care Plans.

In order to be successful for this role, the applicant will have: 

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, or another relevant field.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of trauma informed practice in relation to children, young people, and families,
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of conducting intake assessments. 
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate amongst professional peers on behalf of children and young people.
  • Experience in working with and supporting children, young people, and families in crisis and those who have experienced abuse and / or neglect,
