Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of children and families? Capital Region Community Services (CRCS) Child and Family Services is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Child and Family Practitioner to join the team.

Our organisation offers a diverse range of service offerings designed to support parents, caregivers, and education services in nurturing, supporting, and raising healthy, vibrant, and happy children and young people. The services provided include parent/carer education, support groups, early education support, targeted interventions for families and children, evidence-based therapeutic programs, and supported/targeted playgroups. Practitioners will work collaboratively as a team to deliver tailored services across these programs, ensuring the best outcomes for all involved. The role involves working in various settings, such as education, community, and family homes, and requires the ability to work with clients presenting different needs. Additionally, practitioners may contribute to the development and delivery of internal and external training packages and support other program areas within CRCS.

About the role

Reporting to the Program Manager, Child and Family Services, you will be working closely with parents, caregivers, and educators to enhance the socioemotional well-being of children and families using evidence-based parenting and therapeutic support.

Responsibilities include organising and implementing group programs and education sessions, assisting participants in setting and achieving personal goals, maintaining professional relationships with participants and service providers, providing information and advocacy for accessing services, and keeping accurate records. The position also involves collaborating with carers, families, and relevant agencies.

Required qualifications include tertiary education in Social Work, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, or a related field, with additional registration or eligibility for registration if applicable. You will also have demonstrated experience working with vulnerable parents and families, knowledge of mental health and socioemotional development, proficiency in group program facilitation, and effective collaboration with stakeholders.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, organisational proficiency, and familiarity with Microsoft Office are necessary. First Aid Certificate, certifications in psychoeducation and therapeutic programs, a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, experience delivering evidence-based group psychoeducation programs, familiarity with the ACT Community Services and Child Mental Health sectors, membership with professional bodies, and/or knowledge of Attachment Theory, Trauma-Informed Practice, Neurobehavioral development, and Play Therapy would be highly advantageous.

A valid driver’s license and access to a roadworthy, registered, and comprehensively insured vehicle are essential for this role to fulfill work-related requirements. You must also have a current Working with Children Clearance if working in NSW, in addition to a current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.

CRCS also requires all employees to:

  • Hold or be willing to obtain a satisfactory Working with Vulnerable People registration (ACT) and/or a Working with Children Check (NSW), and have these with them at all times whilst employed by CRCS.
  • Undertake a National Criminal History Clearance by CRCS prior to commencing and every three years thereafter as a condition of employment. Employees are required to advise CRCS of any convictions that may effect their eligibility to work or perform the inherent requirements of their position 
  • Maintain full COVID-19 vaccination currency and provide evidence of their vaccinations to CRCS (sensitive information is kept private and in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles) unless they are able to provide suitable evidence of a medical contraindication that prevents them from receiving this vaccine.
