Unique Minds Consultancy is an organisation of fifteen years and is working to support the improvements for children, young people and families in the mental health, disabilities, and child protection sectors. We are focused on the diversion and prevention of abuse and neglect and to enrich the lives of children and families who are facing challenges and who are at risk of future maltreatment. We are also significantly invested in the reunification of children with their families where safe to do so, and in supporting parents and carers with tools to enact change.

Unique Minds Consultancy is at the forefront of frontline, evidence-based practice whereby we are invested in providing a high standard of service and research projects to support change in the child protection, mental health, and disability sectors across all ecologies in a child and family’s life. We work closely with our key stakeholders including Schools and the Department of Education, Department of Child Safety, Mental Health Practitioners, NDIS partners and Allied Health professionals. We offer a range of assessments, therapies, and frontline service work with vulnerable families.

We are seeking a full-time or part-time Child & Family Support Officer to join our growing team in the Darling Downs or western regions. We are open to a hybrid model whereby the Support Officer is able to operate from home on given days when not working with families. This role will involve working with families and children in rural regions and will include outreach and in home support that is informed by tailored therapeutic assessment and planning. Models of practice vary according to the individual needs of each family; the successful applicant will be supported by a Clinical Therapist team that will oversee the implementation and reporting of interventions. 

We require a professional who has:

  • Experience working with vulnerable children and families who have current or past involvement with the Child Protection sector.
  • An understanding of trauma informed practice and the impacts of trauma on a developing brain
  • An understanding of the intergenerational impacts of trauma on families
  • An awareness of children with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and their specific needs 
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Ability to work autonomously, and as part of a team, who can manage time, competing demands and demonstrate organisational capabilities.
  • A demonstrated skill set in one or more of the domains of mental illness, drug and alcohol misuse, homelessness, domestic and family violence, trauma, attachment, disabilities, child development, cumulative harm and post traumatic growth.
  • Current driver’s licence
  • Eligibility for a positive Working with Children’s Check in QLD
  • Eligibility for a NDIS Worker Screening card
  • Fully vaccinated with the prescribed doses of an approved vaccine against COVID-19 or a medically approved exemption
  • Approval to work in Australia.
  •  An understanding of the comorbidity of metal health, trauma and disabilities and the impacts of these complexities on families
  • An understanding of the OOHC sector
