About The Role
The Child & Family Advocate is responsible for providing child-specific trauma-informed support, to children and families. This position will work with other staff to ensure that children impacted are provided with a package of support that is tailored to their individual needs and circumstances.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and facilitate child-centred, culturally sensitive and developmentally appropriate programs and structured activities that meet the needs, interests and strengths of children and families attending our services.
- Develop individual case plans for children based on assessed needs and the priorities identified in consultation with the mother, DFV Case Managers and child
- Action, monitor and regularly review goals and actions in child case plans
- Communicate a shared understanding with children and their mothers of the issues involved in family violence and their effects on children
- Identify and access service options for children through collaborative and productive relationships with other relevant service providers and agencies.
- Attend interagency meetings, case conferences, forums and community events as appropriate.
About You
- Minimum Tertiary qualification in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy or similar qualification in related discipline and equivalent experience
- Completion of ECAV training or other approved child protections qualification, or willingness to work toward same.
- Mental Health First Aid Certificate or willingness to work toward same
- Experience supporting children and/or families affected by DFV to realise positive change, using a flexible, child centred and trauma informed approaches to service delivery.
- Demonstrated understanding of early childhood development and experience in developing and applying play based approaches within a family violence (or related) setting.
- Demonstrate ability to create, implement and evaluate evidence based programs of support
- Ability to identify and effectively manage risk as it relates to children and families in a DFV setting
- All final applicants for this position will be requested to provide COVID-19 Vaccination certificate (Required doses in accordance with Government Health Advice) or medical exemption certificate as part of the recruitment process
