About the Role

This is a great opportunity to work within the Federal Courts System, working directly with children and families in high risk and complex cases to conduct intake, assessments, and case management to make recommendations to the courts in the interests of the child’s wellbeing.

Skills and Abilities:

  • A minimum of five years post-graduate experience working within child protection, supporting children, young people and their families who have been impacted by trauma or have experienced abuse and neglect.
  • Experience working in a statutory environment, conducting comprehensive risk screening and family assessments.
  • Experience working directly with the courts, providing evidence as an expert witness with written reports.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducting child-centered preliminary and comprehensive family assessments, including conducting interviews and observations with children.
  • Assisting parties to resolve or narrow the issues in dispute between them, including by undertaking parenting dispute resolution conferences in collaboration with a Judicial Registrar.
  • Providing evidence to the Courts as an expert witness in the form of written reports and/or oral testimony.
  • Undertaking risk screening and risk assessment to assist in case management and safety planning.
  • Providing advice to parties and the Courts regarding external support services for children and families.

Requirements of the role:

  • A Bachelor or Masters degree in a relevant social work discipline
  • Registration or eligibility for AASW or AHPRA
  • Relevant state WWCC
  • Willingness to undergo and obtain a clear National Police Check
