An opportunity exists for an experienced child protection clinician to join the Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect Child Protection Counselling Service. Flexible work practices are available.

Employment Type: Permanent Part Time/Full Time roles available and also Temporary Part Time until 30 October 2023

What you’ll be doing

The Child Protection Counsellor is responsible for the provision of specialist therapeutic and case management services to children, young people and their carers who have experienced physical abuse, emotional abuse, domestic violence or neglect. CPCS also provides professional consultation and training, systems advocacy, community engagement, education, and prevention work to professionals and communities.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  2. Full registration with AHPRA as a Psychologist who has completed 9 years of service as a minimum or with a minimum two-year full-time equivalent accredited post-graduate Masters, Doctorate, or PhD degree in Clinical Psychology or equivalent relevant to the role or tertiary qualifications in Counselling or Social Work and eligibility for the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and post graduate experience at a minimum of level 2 or above.
  3. Demonstrated extensive understanding of the dynamics or complex trauma and effects of physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect and domestic violence and best practice models (provision of contemporary trauma informed practices) for working with children, young people and adults who have experienced abuse and/or trauma.
  4. Demonstrated high level ability to communicate clearly and succinctly both verbally and in writing, and proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team. Demonstrated competence in the use of electronic information systems.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an interagency environment using strong advocacy, negotiation and problem solving skills to build networks with key stakeholders and plan, deliver and coordinate patient care.
  6. Demonstrated ability to prioritise work and manage stressful situations; independently problem-solve and apply advanced reasoning and professional and ethical boundaries when working with complex situations and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  7. Demonstrated high level experience/knowledge of legislation, interagency guidelines and NSW Health policies in Child Protection including reporting responsibilities and health role in recognising and responding to child abuse and neglect.
  8. Ability to participate in the 24hr On Call Service, current unrestricted NSW Driver’s License and willingness to provide services at different locations within NSLHD.
