About the Role
We are currently seeking applications for the multiple permanent part-time (22.5 hours per week) roles of Children’s Contact Service (CCS) Family Support Worker located at the Cairns venue.
The purpose of this role is to assist with the activities of the CCS, which helps facilitate contact arrangements, supports children and their family members during changeovers or supervised visits, and provides a safe and secure environment for the child/ren.
The key responsibilities of this position include:
- Apply theoretical models of supportive human interaction, developmental stages of children, conflict resolution, and other relevant frameworks when working with children and parents, whilst maintaining child inclusive practice
- Undertake assessment and intake processes, including parent interviews, explanation of safety procedures, and familiarisation visits for children
- Organise a safe and appropriate environment, and activities for children that maximise parent/child interaction and engage children in an interesting, calming and positive manner
- Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions for parents and children accessing CCS, assess the future need of the family in managing the ongoing parental relationship, and refer parents to appropriate services and programs as required.
Work days/hours will be negotiated with the successful applicant, however please note that the position holder will be required to work weekends on a fortnightly basis and evenings, with some flexibility, to meet the CCS program requirements. Weekend shifts incur generous penalty rates.
About You
To be successful in this position, you will
- Have appropriate tertiary qualifications in the social or behavioural sciences, with studies in child development being essential.
- Have demonstrated experience working with children and their parents/carers and have theoretical knowledge of the issues regarding child development, abuse and/or neglect; and
- Experience working with people in crisis and/or parents in conflict.
- Knowledge and ability to apply relevant legislation and regulations relating to family law and/or children’s contact issues is also required.
- Ability to work on weeekend and evening shifts

The salary being offered is between $80,963.63 to $87,125.54 per annum pro rata, to be negotiated depending upon qualifications and experience, plus superannuation. We also offer our employees as follows
