About the Student Life Division
The Student Life division ensures the delivery of student-centred support across the student lifecycle that underpins the University’s broader strategic visions by delivering support services and functions that facilitate and enhance the academic mission of the institution. The Student Life division provides support services and programs that contribute to the student experience and success, including in the areas of health, counselling, disability services, orientation and transition, retention, student wellbeing, and student engagement through the activities of the Flinders University Student Association.
About the Role
Flinders University has an exciting new opening for a motivated City Campus Counsellor. With the Health, Counselling and Disability services team you will provide support services to students to promote student wellbeing and success.
In this multi-faceted role, your support will include intake and assessment, crisis response and safety planning, referrals to internal and external stakeholders, brief solution-focussed counselling, development of Disability Access Plans, delivery of group and other programs, and offering advice and training to University staff that promotes student wellbeing.
Working collaboratively with a passionate and motivated team, you will also be required to:
- Provide a first point of contact and professional counselling service for students experiencing issues that are impacting on their wellbeing including academic, personal or mental health issues.
- Provide support and assistance with academic progress issues including advice regarding University policies and procedures and liaison with other University staff, both academic and professional as appropriate.
- Provide some case management services to students experiencing multiple and complex issues that impact on their wellbeing. This will include case management services to students entering into/exiting the acute mental health system, students in high-risk domestic violence situations, sexual assault or sexual harassment and student equal opportunity matters.
Please know that work out of hours, weekend work and travel may be required.
About You
Your time management and problem-solving skills will be the key to your success as you demonstrate that you can effectively meet critical demands and solve complex matters in a fast paced environment.
You will be an excellent communicator with highly developed interpersonal skills enabling you to provide counselling and case management support to students. You will have experience providing counselling services, including intake and assessment, crisis intervention, solution focused counselling and case management support. The ideal candidate will hold an understanding of the higher education sector and be able to provide support to a diverse client group.
The successful candidate will also hold Registration as a Psychologist with the Psychological Board of Australia or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers and postgraduate experience.
