New Horizons is working in partnership with the NSW government to combat suicide in young people. The new Youth Aftercare Pilot is one of its kind in that co-production with young people with lived experience of suicidality inform all aspects of the program. It’s also one of very few programs that works with children at very young age. So much so, that the program has attracted attention from the government and generated broad media publicity.
We are looking for an experienced Clinical Advisor to be part of this meaningful initiative overseeing clinical strategy and innovation and providing expert advice and clinical leadership, driving clinical innovation and fostering trusted partnerships to ensure we make a difference to children and young people’s and their families lives.
We have a Full-time position, role can either be based in Liverpool or Mount Druitt – covering the two IAM teams. This is a max-term contract until June 2024.

Ticket to Play
- National Criminal History Check (Police Check), Working with Children Check & NSW Drivers Licence
- Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Counselling
- (Eligible for) Registration with the appropriate registration body (e.g., APHRA or AASW)
- Highly desirable- 3 year post graduate experience working with children and young people in mental health settings
The Day to Day
As the Clinical Advisor you will be:
- Providing clinical advice, training, and assistance to a team of Children and Young People Champions of the Youth Aftercare Pilot Program – a team of diverse nonclinical staff with lived and learnt experience and associated agencies.
- Be responsible for overseeing the clinical and operational management of children and young people presenting with suicidality and self-harming issues and to ensure suitable referral pathways are in place.
- Working in close consultation with Youth aftercare CYP Champions to ensure safe delivery of risk assessments and mitigation strategies when supporting children and young people.
- Assist in developing systems which to promote robust service delivery which meets high standard of care to children and young people at risk of suicide.
- Have the ability to assist in the development of systems that promote standardisation, integrity of data collection, applicability to quality framework, and regulatory or compliance requirements to increase efficiency and effectiveness
- Assist CYP Champions of the Youth Aftercare Pilot program in connecting children and young people with clinical services which meets their needs.
- Responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships and partnership with other clinical services. As well as working with funding bodies to ensure contractual obligations are met.
What we are looking for
- Demonstrated experience working with children and young people at risk of suicide.
- Experience providing clinical consultation to a wider team around complex presentations.
- Experience in a similar advisor/consultative role in provision of psychological assessments, consultations and therapeutic interventions to children and young people with complex issues, essential.
- Experience working with children, young people and families, highly desirable
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on collaborative and consultative communication
- Have excellent organisational skills and be effective in documentation
- Ability to travel between regional NSW
