About Us

Youth Focus is a for-purpose organisation that creates brighter futures for young people in Western Australia by offering a range of no-cost mental health services. Established in 1994, Youth Focus delivers innovative and accessible mental health services and programs across Western Australia to help at-risk young people aged 12 to 25. A key component of this, is our role as the lead agency for a number of headspace centres, including the dynamic and successful headspace Geraldton, where this role is located.

The headspace mission is to collaborate to design and deliver innovative ways of working with young people to strengthen their mental health and wellbeing.

headspace provides a holistic approach to supporting all young people, and their families and friends who enter their centres by providing support through four core areas: mental health, physical (including sexual) health, alcohol and other drug services, and work and study support. This is achieved through a local community of collaborative, co-located services.

headspace Geraldton is part of a national network of over 100 headspace centres operating across Australia with the vision of all young Australians being supported to be mentally health and engaged in their communities.

  • Full-time position
  • Fixed-term contract until June 2023, with likely extension in line with funding

 

About the Role

The Clinical Lead position will deliver clinical supervision, guidance, and professional support to reporting Youth Counsellors and lead the clinical review meeting on a weekly basis. Further responsibilities include: 

  • Work under the direction of headspace Manager to provide youth friendly mental health services within the headspace Geraldton Centre
  • Provide and supervise the use of psycho-social assessments using the agreed headspace tool, to determine client suitability for ongoing headspace Geraldton services with youth counsellors
  • Provide and supervise the delivery of and provide evidence-based interventions, including group interventions, Single Session Family Consultation and problem solving, with young people and their families
  • Develop clinical case formulation and care plans, and the ongoing development of enhanced clinical procedures and guidelines
  • Coordinate regular clinical case review meetings and multi-disciplinary team meetings to ensure appropriate clinical service pathway and service delivery
  • Carry an appropriate client load in negotiation with the headspace Geraldton Manager

About You

To be considered for this position, applicants will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (i.e., Mental Health Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Mental Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy)
  • Membership or registration with an appropriate professional body
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of clinical supervision, multidisciplinary team coordination, and clinical leadership
  • Extensive and in-depth experience of working in a mental health setting inclusive of work with youth and adolescent populations
  • Passion for working with young people
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to engage with and coordinate care for young people aged 12 to 25 years in areas of mental health and substance use intervention
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to undertake screening and assessment to determine young person?s needs level of risk and to refer to other services as appropriate
  • Well-developed knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, government policies and strategic directions in relation to mental health and alcohol and other drug disorders, particularly as it relates to young people
