Clinical Mental Health Practitioner – Family Mental Health Support Service Better Place Australia

The Role

The position of Clinical Mental Health Practitioner forms part of Better Place Australia’s Family Mental Health Support Service (FMHSS) with the appointee providing early intervention support to vulnerable families with children and young people who are showing early signs of or are at risk of developing mental illness.  Key work tasks associated with this role include the provision of:

  • Intensive, long term early intervention Case Management support (including targeted psychoeducational group work);
  • Short term information, referral, coordination and assistance for families and carers, and;
  • Community outreach, mental health promotion/education and community development activities. 

To be considered for appointment to this role, prospective candidates must possess the following minimum criteria: 

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Behavioural Sciences, or Occupational Therapy (with the requirement to maintain professional membership(s) with APS/AHPRA, AASW, ACA and/or PACFA); 
  • Professional work experience in the mental health field, and; 
  • Experience as an Accredited Mental Health Practitioner providing assessment, case management and support to children, young people and their families in the context of mental illness.

The appointee will possess demonstrated experience in providing assessment, case management and support to children, young people and their families in the context of mental illness and previous experience in working across culturally and linguistically diverse communities.  Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills are essential as are sound engagement and rapport building skills.  Strong needs and risk assessment skills are also essential together with a teamwork orientated approach and the ability to develop creative solutions to situations as they arise.
