An exciting opportunity exists for the Clinical Nurse to provide a unique opportunity to utilise your mental health specific clinical expertise, advanced leadership and management skills to role model excellence in nursing care and leadership, while contributing to the future development of the Mental Health Intensive Care in-patient unit within Mental Health and Specialised Service (MHSS).

The Pandanus Unit will be a brand new adult inpatient service for the Sunshine Coast Mental Health Service opening in October with full capacity in February 2024. This is an exciting opportunity for dynamic nursing members to set a new ward culture and environment for people living with or experiencing mental illness.

The Nambour (NGH) Adult Inpatient Units (Bunya and Pandanus) are 16 bed wards providing welcoming care that is person centred, recovery oriented and evidence based. We focus on family and carer inclusion to achieve the best possible outcomes for our patients. Both units have an additional 4 Mental Health Intensive Care beds attached to support patients that require an increased level of care during their admission, meaning each unit has a total of 20 beds. Bunya and Pandanus are one component of an integrated service that provides contemporary care across all settings. Both units provide assessment and treatment to adults aged 18 to 65, who need short to medium term inpatient care.

The Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service, Mental Health, and Specialised Service, (SCHHS-MHSS) operates within an integrated model of care that provides a range of mental health services across community and hospital settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • provides nursing services in health service settings; and
  • is responsible for a portfolio with a focus on clinical care/leadership, management, education and/or research.
  • Practices autonomously.
  • Continuity of care and the promotion of patient safety and quality are paramount and informed by evidence-based practice consistent with national, state and local mental health policies and directions.
  • The underpinning principles and commitment of the SCHHS-MHSS include the provision of services which are person centred and recovery oriented with the aim of assisting individuals with mental illness to realise their optimal potential as individuals and as valued citizens of the community.

Remuneration value up to $128,057 p.a., comprising salary between $104,816- $112,236 p.a. (f/t), or salary rates: $52.86 – $56.60 p.h. (p/t), employer contribution to superannuation (up to 12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%) (NRG6 (1)). (Permanent full time, 76 hrs p.f. and/or part time positions available).
