What you will be doing:
A wonderful opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist to join the Lithgow Community Mental Health Team located at Lithgow Hospital. This is a temporary full time assignment until July 2025.

As the Clinical Psychologist, you will provide outreach evidence-based psychological treatment techniques, assessment, care planning and case management services to people living in drought affected areas and experiencing psychological stress.

Your role will exercise independent clinical judgement in the provision of person/ consumer-centred assessment, diagnosis, intervention and consultancy to consumers, families/carers and other health care professionals to ensure delivery of innovative clinical practice models and therapeutic techniques. This will also include provision of psychology services, outreach community support and assessment, care planning and clinical intervention services to drought affected areas with a focus around localities with recognised rural adversity and contribute to quality improvement and/or clinical research projects to improve consumer outcomes and the quality and efficiency of service delivery. In addition, the Clinical Psychologist will participate in service planning and policy development as required.

Selection criteria to be addressed:

  1. Postgraduate clinical psychology qualification and endorsement with Psychology Board of Australia or working towards endorsement.
  2. Experience in assessment, group intervention and evaluation of clinical outcomes with diverse patient, community and/or consumer populations.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work independently in the provision of group and person/consumer-focused care.
  4. Understanding of the current issues experienced in rural communities that impact on delivery in relation to the field of psychological practice for individuals, families and communities.
  5. Demonstrated willingness to travel to rural sites in NBMLHD to provide an outreach service and/or provision of clinical services.
  6. Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to suit the target audience.
  7. Commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and an understanding of the issues that impact on delivery in relation to the field of psychological practice.
