What you’ll be doing

The Mental Health Ambulance and Police Project (MHAPP) clinician will provide a highly mobile, recovery orientated clinical assessment, consultancy and support to NSW Ambulance and Police managing mental health related cases in the community.   They will also provide clinical leadership in the trialing of virtual assessment of consumers in the community who are geographically isolated. 
 
The MHAPP clinician works with NSW Ambulance and Police to provide mental health triage, primary client assessment and management of complex mental health emergencies and crises at an advanced level. The position holder will be required to possess extensive knowledge of mental health disorders and demonstrated clinical practices to provide support, treatment, coordination and education to emergency services who work with consumers with complex mental and physical health needs.  The position may be based in one of a number of locations for their shifts, including but not limited to Nowra and Oak Flats.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (3 doses for Category A roles, 2 doses for Category B roles) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrated qualifications as either: • Registered nurse with a current license to practice from the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Minimum five years full time equivalent post registration experience and in addition who has approved post registration nursing/midwifery qualification relevant to Acute Community Mental Health or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate. • Relevant qualifications as an Occupational Therapist currently registered with AHPRA. • Qualified Social Worker eligible for registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). • Qualified Counsellor having completed the Djirruwang Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health). All Allied Health applicants must demonstrate ability to meet all components of a Level 3 practitioner under the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award, 2019 and have demonstrated application of relevant professional skills in an Acute Mental Health setting.
  2. Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in clinical practice.
  3. Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums and knowledge of the practice development framework for clinical practice.
  4. Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff.
  5. Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service
  6. Demonstrated advanced understanding of contemporary mental health clinical practice. Proven skills in clinical teaching, the identification of education needs in the clinical area, and competency in the use of contemporary information systems.
  7. Ability to apply clinical expertise in client-centered consultancy with the ability to work independently.
  8. Current NSW Driver’s License
