  • Part time (0.6FTE) ongoing position commencing January 2023
  • Based at Oakwood School – Caulfield Campus (headspace office located in Dandenong)
  • $45 – $52ph + Super + Generous Salary Packaging [link removed] benefits of up to $18,550

Who we are
headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation with EACH being one of the lead agencies. We began in 2006, and ever since we’ve provided early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year-olds.

Each year, we help thousands of young people, and their family and friends, access vital support through our headspace services in over 145 communities across Australia, our online and phone counselling services, our vocational services, and our presence in schools.

About the Mental Health Clinician role
Oakwood School provides opportunities for young people, aged 12 to 18 years of age who have disengaged from school or where a mainstream school learning environment is seen to be inappropriate to meet the young person’s needs.

If you’re an experienced Mental Health Clinician, qualified in the relevant field (minimum Tertiary Qualification in Psychology, Counselling, Social Work or relevant), enjoy variety in your day, and working closely with other service delivery professionals, then keep reading!

Who we’re looking for
You will have experience and passion for working with young people to deliver therapeutic interventions and a demonstrated understanding of school culture and the challenging problems facing young people.

With your demonstrated high level of interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), problem-solving and negotiation skills, you will be specially equipped to speak with young people in the early stages of help-seeking.

What you’ll be doing
In this varied role, no two days will look the same.
You will be responsible for:

  • Engaging and building rapport and trust with the vulnerable young people experiencing mild to moderate intensity mental health difficulties attending Oakwood School.
  • Establish a potential client’s needs (through discussion of the presenting issue/s) and determine the client’s suitability for headspace services.
  • Actively and collaboratively participating in well-being referral meetings.
  • Undertaking assessments and providing treatment, care planning and support to young people.

Who you’ll be working with
Reporting to the Senior Clinician Coordinator School Services, you will be part of the School Services Team which consists of a number of schools across headspace Dandenong and headspace Hastings. You will work with professionals at Oakwood School, the Principal will provide day to day support along with other members of the school leadership team and external health professionals/services when necessary.
