JOB DESCRIPTION

Applications are invited from suitably qualified, highly motivated College Counsellors to join our Student Wellbeing Team whilst being fully supportive of the ethos of our school based on the Islamic tradition

We are an equal opportunity, independent, Foundation to Year 12 Islamic College based in Melbourne’s outer west. Child safety is our priority and we are currently seeking a qualified, full-time team member to join our College’s Counselling department. 

The role of the College Counsellor requires practical experience in working with children and adolescents from diverse cultural backgrounds.  The successful applicant will have an ability to build rapport and engage young people in the context of therapy and be innovative, confident and flexible in contributing to the implementation of social and emotional development programs to build students social, emotional and resiliency skills. 

Essential Criteria for College Counsellor:

  • Working With Children Check is mandatory
  • Demonstrate excellent written and spoken English skills
  • Strong understanding of the developmental needs of children, adolescents and emerging young adults.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Explain professional concepts and approaches to clients, stakeholders, colleagues and staff
  • Confidentiality
  • Proficient in the use of ICT for communication and record keeping.
  • Interpersonal skills appropriate to establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, staff and parents, particularly the ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Successful tertiary studies in an area relevant to this position.
  • Commitment to supporting the College’s relational management and restorative practice.
  • Maintain a positive environment which is respectful of all present and fosters student learning and motivation.
  • Participate in the College’s professional development activities in and out of school hours.
