JOB DESCRIPTION

About the role:

  • Must be Australian Citizen to apply
  • Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week
  • APS 5 equivalent, $50 per hour + super
  • Contract until June 2024

Position Overview: Community and Peer Advisors utilise their personal experience to provide crucial support and education to clients about recovery-oriented practices and mental health services. This role emphasizes early engagement and trauma-informed care, making it essential for candidates to have lived experience with mental health issues and Australian Defence Force (ADF) service. Responsibilities include delivering goal-oriented individual support, collaborating with relevant stakeholders, co-facilitating group programs, and promoting Open Arms’ services within the community.

As a Community and Peer Advisor, you will:

  • Offer individualised peer support services to current and former ADF members and their families, following Open Arms policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively to identify client goals and develop personalized Action Plans that highlight strengths and measure progress.
  • Utilise your lived experience and understanding of veterans’ and families’ needs to establish strong rapport with clients, recognising their expertise and guidance in their own mental well-being.
  • Co-facilitate group programs with team members, represent Open Arms within the veteran community, and expand your network by collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders to advocate for a recovery-oriented service delivery approach for veterans, current ADF members, and their families.
  • Demonstrate behaviours that promote mental health recovery and wellness, serving as a role model for resilience and adaptability in client, community, and stakeholder interactions.
