headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds. The service is designed to make it as easy as possible for a young person and their family to get the help they need for problems affecting their wellbeing. Youturn is a national not-for-profit which delivers Health and Community Services to vulnerable people of all ages across Australia. Trusted to deliver safe, inclusive, and supportive programs, Youturn ensures that those we support can have access to secure and affordable housing and enjoy optimal mental well-being, allowing them to thrive and live a healthy, meaningful life.
In the past year alone, Youturn has provided support to nearly 10,000 individuals through a diverse range of health and community service initiatives. These programs encompass:
- Mental Health: Providing clinical and non-clinical support services to young people to manage their mental health.
- Suicide Prevention: Supporting people and communities bereaved or impacted by suicide.
- Child Safety: Providing children and young people with safe and caring environments.
- Homelessness: Delivering sustainable housing for those in need in our communities.
The Opportunity
As a Community and Youth Engagement Worker you will actively promote headspace Caboolture’s services and foster the participation of young people in the centre’s Youth Reference Group. You will effectively support young people through coordinating events, engaging with family and friends, stakeholders and the wider community.
Some of the key responsibilities include:
- Recruit, train, supervise and support young people to be involved in the headspace centre Youth Reference Group, and strengthen engagement through a range of activities, projects, and campaigns.
- Support Young People and Family and Friends to represent and advocate for headspace in local networks.
- Design, plan and coordinate activities / events that promote community participation in headspace programs and initiatives.
- Develop community and health professional education events to build capacity and awareness of youth mental health and drug and alcohol issues.
- Facilitate psycho-social based programs and clinical groups for young people, in conjunction with a headspace clinical team member.
- Maintain presence and provide regular updates on social media for the Centre (e.g. Facebook, Instagram).

Essential
- Demonstrated experience working in health promotion, community development, marketing/communications, or related field.
- Experience engaging and working with young people with mental health issues.
- Knowledge and understanding of issues faced by young people with mental health issues.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders, including young people, their families/carers/kin, other agencies, and the wider community.
- Experience in the delivery of groups to support young people and their families/carers/kin to support clinical.
- Demonstrated ability to engage young people and work with them on promotional activities and campaigns.
- Ability to work in a highly productive team as well as independently in an environment with time pressures and multi-tasking
- Knowledge of local youth/health/education sectors and understanding of trauma informed practice.
Other Requirements
- Shortlisted candidates may be invited to showcase their skills through a brief presentation / project during the interview process.
- Successful applicants will also need to hold a ‘C’ class Open driver licence, State Working with Children Check and hold, or be eligible to apply for, a Licensed Care Suitability Check issued by the QLD Department of Child Safety, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs.
