An exciting opportunity has become available for a motivated clinician (Psychologist, Social worker, Counsellor) to work within a positive and enthusiastic Drug and Alcohol Team based at the Drug and Alcohol Community Counselling Team based at Hornsby Hospital.
This role provides professional counselling services that demonstrate evidence-based strategies to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and significant others affected by problematic substance use.

MHDA Statement of Intention
The intention of the NSLHD MHDA is to provide recovery-oriented, trauma informed services that are guided by evidence based practices and collaboration.
The primary purpose of the Drug and Alcohol (D&A) Counsellor is to provide evidence based assessment, information and treatment for clients who attend all of the D&A centres (Hornsby, St Leonards, Ryde or Northern Beaches).
This role will involve a stepped care approach with brief interventions, comprehensive assessment, initiating and managing planned treatment options, consultation and referral to other agencies.
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background encouraged to apply.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Recognised qualifications suitable for a mental health professional, such as Psychologist or Counsellor, with current registration through the relevant Professional Board of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, or eligibility for Membership for Social Workers with the AASW. Hold a current NSW Driver’s Licence.
- Demonstrated current clinical knowledge and experience to effectively manage clinical issues in the assessment and treatment of people with drug and alcohol problems.
- Previous experience in the assessment and/or management of people with co-morbid substance use disorders and mental health problems.
- Experience in health promotion, quality projects, accreditation and ability to help with research.
