We are looking for a Community Engagement and employment worker to engage and empower Migrant/Refugee communities and respond to their identified needs!

 

Fixed term position until June 2024

Work for 5 days/ 38 hrs per week 

9.00am to 5.00pm 

 

 

SCHADS Level 3/4 (depending on skills/experience)

+ 11% Superannuation + Not for Profit Packaging

 

The role is based in Oakleigh

with an expectation to work at other sites/locations within the region to fulfill operational requirements

About the role … 

The Community Engagement and employment worker engages and empowers migrant and refugee community groups and individuals/families through the provision and monitoring of high-quality community development programs and activities/initiatives that respond to identified needs; with a particular focus on Gender Equity, inclusion and safety.

The position sits within MiCare’s Integrated Family/Client Services and Community Capacity building teams.  Some of the responsibilities of the role include:

  • Build and maintain effective links with migrant and refugee individuals and community groups, this could include but is not limited to individuals/community members on humanitarian/ migrant/ temporary and student visas.
  • Facilitate community consultations and other relevant engagements to identify issues, needs and barriers of refugee and migrant community groups and individuals/families and provide input into the development of relevant services and programs.
  • Facilitate the co-design and delivery of project initiatives that respond to identified community issues with a focus but on, but not limited to, Gender Equity, inclusion (social/economic) and safety.
  • Support community leaders/members, community groups or associations to strengthen their skills and capacity in areas such as networking, leadership, group governance, and project management. This can include, but not limited to, the planning and implementation of workshops.
  • Provide information, advice and referral to refugee and migrant community groups and individuals/families including linkage to appropriate support and service provision.
  • Participate in networks, trainings, forums, Community of Practice (COP), and conferences as appropriate and relevant to advocate needs of eligible clients and promote MiCare and its services.
  • Support/Implement legislative requirements of the role including mandatory reporting and children safety strategies, use of MARAM Framework within practice, contribute to Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme (FVISS) and Child Information Sharing Scheme (CISS), and ensure client confidentiality and privacy is maintained.

About you … 

A genuine commitment to access and equity principles, multiculturalism and the values of respect, equality, and integrity.  Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach desirable.  

Qualifications:

  • Appropriate Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Community Services/Development or other relevant qualification, and/or equivalent demonstrated experience.

Skills

  • An understanding of, and commitment to, the needs of newly arrived migrant and refugee communities, individuals/families including but not limited to individuals/community members on humanitarian/ migrant/ temporary and student visas.
  • Familiarity of systemic and structural barriers that migrant and refugee communities, individuals/families may experience with particular regard to the areas of gender equity, social/economic participation, and safety.
  • Knowledge of Community Development and Capacity building approaches within the Settlement context.
  • Ability to work in a culturally sensitive and trauma informed manner within an ethno-specific environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging with individuals and community groups, understanding/assessing needs, leading discussions, and consultations.
  • Lived experience of migration, and resettlement, and/or capacity to speak a relevant community language and Knowledge of key services in the targeted region and surrounding areas preferred

A police check with no disclosable outcome, current medicare evidence of influenza vaccination and full COVID-19 vaccination is required by MiCare for this position.
