Community Inclusion Consultant Autism Queensland

JOB DESCRIPTION

Working at Autism Queensland is about life and all the moments that make up each day. Our Community Inclusion Team provides high quality and tailored consultancy support to corporate and community organisations to understand and implement inclusive practices for neurodivergent and autistic individuals.

Individuals on the autism spectrum and those with sensory processing differences may encounter obstacles when it comes to accessing various environments. These challenges can restrict their involvement in routine activities, such as going to shopping centers, participating in sports groups, or traveling within the community. In this role, you’ll have a genuine opportunity to enable social change as you partner with organisations and businesses to increase their inclusive practices.

We’re on the look-out for individuals who, like us, understand that effecting systemic change to promote neurodiversity-affirming practices in environmental and physical spaces, as well as in policies and procedures, necessitates the creation of inclusive, inviting, and engaging environments that benefit everyone consistently.

An integral aspect of this role involves educating both our existing and prospective clients about the benefits of inclusive design, which eradicates the obstacles often found in traditional workplaces. By doing so, it ensures that every individual can access and actively participate in their work environment on an equal footing.

You’ll find this role exceptionally fulfilling if you’re enthusiastic about establishing nationwide connections with clients and industry partners while collaborating with exceptionally skilled, like-minded professionals. If you possess patience, persistence, and a deep appreciation for the meaningful work we’re engaged in within this field – and can effectively communicate that value to others, you’ll fit right in with the team.

The scope of our service is broad, some of the things you’ll be involved in are.

  • Site visits for discovery and requirements gathering to understand our client needs.
  • Environmental assessment to identify barriers in client workplaces.
  • Create groundbreaking inclusive design solutions to address potential barriers and enhance accessibility.
  • Provide recommendations for design/modification of public or outdoor spaces (including breakout rooms/quiet spaces) in public spaces or outdoor spaces.
  • Provide staff training on neurodiversity awareness and the advantages of inclusive design within the scope of existing legislation and Australian Standards.

This is a rapidly growing service here at AQ and we’d really like to chat to you if the role excites you and you have some of these requirements;

  • Relevant Tertiary qualifications in Diversity and Inclusion or Access and Environmental Design.
  • Minimum eight years’ postgraduate experience
  • Demonstrated high level of understanding of contemporary inclusion practices and universal design
  • Demonstrated high level of understanding of Australian legislation (e.g., Disability Discrimination Act) and relevant Australian Standards
  • Demonstrated experienced in provision of consultancy services

From flexible working options and wellness programs to professional development and referral incentives, we encourage our staff to strive for a better balance.

  • Access up to $18,000 in Not-For-Profit salary packaging.
  • Discounted private health insurance.
  • Prioritise wellbeing through a discounted Fitness Passport with access to various fitness and aquatic centres all around the country – for you AND your immediate family!
  • Be part of an organisation with a practice excellence team dedicated to providing our people with clinical supervision and mentoring.
  • You’ll have access to the latest research through our own research and development team.

APPLY NOW or connect with us at [email protected] for more information – we would love to chat with you!
