About the role:

This position provides a culturally safe connection point and referral service for individuals requiring low to medium-intensity mental health support, particularly those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, regardless of their birthplace, permanent residency, or visa status. Many individuals and communities face additional barriers to accessing mental health and support services, including language and cultural differences and disassociation from the broader community due to discrimination or trauma. 

The position reports to Team Leader Wellbeing and Connection and is a part-time outer limit role (30.4 hours per week). 

Community Pathway Connector programs support individuals and agencies across the community sector in responding to the diverse needs of individuals and families. It ensures that support is culturally safe, welcoming, and easily accessible. The role involves assisting people through tailored information and one-on-one support to navigate the service system effectively. This includes working with interpreters and providing links to cultural awareness education as needed. 

What you will do:

  • Cultural competency by providing sensitive support and advocacy for participants and their needs and collaborating with community organisations through a strong understanding of cultural diversity. 
  • Improve awareness and knowledge of participants and communities about mental health support and services more broadly. 
  • Reduce barriers to accessing mental health services by providing assertive outreach to individuals with a disability. 
  • Client support and navigation by offering one-on-one support to clients. 
  • Provide tailored information and refer clients to relevant services and resources according to their needs and act as a liaison between the client and service providers to ensure their needs are understood and met. 
  • Working closely with community agencies, interpreters, and cultural awareness educators to ensure a comprehensive support network for our clients. 

About you:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Mental Health, Social Science, Welfare, or equivalent discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years experience in a similar position
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of support coordination.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills to engage with CALD families and communities. 
  • Extensive knowledge working with CALD communities and people experiencing mental health conditions. 
  • Current Driver’s Licence and Working with Children (Blue Card) with NDIS Worker Screening (Yellow Card). 
  • National Police Clearance (or ability to obtain one). 
  • Completion of NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate (prior to commencement).
