Binaal Billa Family Violence Prevention Legal Service provides legal advice and representation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for family violence and sexual assault.
This position requires a motivated individual with a passion for supporting others. The position requires providing support and advocating for clients and survivors of family violence and sexual assault.
Travel – Regular travel is required to cover the following service areas: Forbes, Parkes, Peak Hill, Condobolin, Lake Cargellico, Murrin Bridge, West Wyalong, Young, Grenfell and Cowra. (this will be shared amongst other community support workers).

Primary Responsibilities
- Providing ongoing support and court support to clients
- Providing one on one support and group support to survivors of family violence and/or sexual assault
- Maintain client records, assessments, case plans, referrals, follow-ups and interventions.
- Work with Aboriginal communities to identify needs and encourage the development and maintenance of a supportive community structure.
- Knowledge of the local communities and services, ability to identify gaps in the services and initiate new services in consultation with Binaal Billa staff, local community organisations and community members.
- To develop and maintain effective partnerships between Binaal Billa FVPLS and other network services.
- To collaborate with Binaal Billa employees to implement community education and social support programs for the communitys within the service provision.
- Advocating for the best interests of child clients, particularly as this relates to care and protection issues.
- Liaising with child protection agencies regarding children at risk.
- Liaising with Binaal Billa solicitors to provide support to clients and follow up as directed.
- Undertake further study as required and professional development. Attend conferences and professional development that may require travel.
- Gain knowledge and understanding of legal practices and guidelines.
- Any other duties as directed by management
Selection Criteria
- Identify strongly with Aboriginal cultural values and belief systems, and have an appropriate appreciation of these values. Demonstrate cultural competency and sensitivity.
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues relating to family violence and/or sexual assault.
- Capacity to work collaboratively with other staff and organisations, and work in a busy work environment.
- Understanding of confidentiality, mandatory reporting and any relevant laws.
- Clearance for Working with Children Check, National Criminal History Check and possess a driver’s license. Please attach.
- Hold a certificate Cert IV or similar within the community services sector.
