Barwon Health Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol Services (MHDAS) are currently recruiting a Consultant Psychiatrist with an interest or subspecialty in child & adolescent eating disorders to join our evolving service. In this new era of mental health service reform, we are transforming our services and are seeking an experienced psychiatrist who has a passion for youth mental health and better mental health care delivery. This is an ongoing position with FTE negotiable to suit particular career goals of the community.

About the service
Our Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol Service (MHDAS) service is internationally recognised for its innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are client centred, accessible and family inclusive. The department supports a wide range of psychiatric services including general adult psychiatry, child & adolescent psychiatry, old age psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, rural psychiatry (Colac), eating disorders, substance misuse disorders, perinatal psychiatry and research psychiatry.
We are fortunate to enjoy terrific internal relationships and have developed excellent partnerships with the local community that provide for seamless integrated care for our clients. We have a strong commitment to excellence in clinical education and research activities (the IMPACT & CHIME units) and a dedicated focus on preparing senior trainees for consultant practice.
About the role
The position will be a key part of the Community Intensive Treatment Program in our Adult Mental Health teams.
The program provides intensive treatment for high needs consumers with a long length of stay in community settings. Outcomes of the program include improved clinical characteristics, improved treatment planning, reduced inpatient admissions and a reduction in the community length of stay.
Your primary objectives will be to:
- Provide leadership, expertise and advice across the CIT program
- Act as a delegate of the authorised Psychiatrist as defined in the Mental Health Act 2014
- and you will contribute to the Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement Program of the service.
- Applicants must hold the FRANZCP, be accredited as a supervisor by the RANZCP, and be registered with general or specialist medical registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
