Our Purpose
Western Queensland PHN (WQPHN) is one of seven Primary Health Networks across Queensland, and 31 nationally funded by the Australian Government, which has a supportive, innovative and collaborative organisational culture. Our goal is to improve the integration of primary care services to create seamless health care in our shared communities across almost one million square kilometres of Western Queensland.
WQPHN is a commissioner of health services who works closely with all health service providers across the region to identify where there are gaps in primary health care, and commissions local providers to cost-effectively provide those services, building a sustainable and integrated system that places the patient at the centre of care.
The Role
The Coordinator, Alcohol & Other Drugs and Wellbeing, plays a pivotal role in developing and enhancing the capability of Western Queensland Primary Health Network (WQPHN) to take the lead in commissioning and integrating regional responses for Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) and wellbeing services. This role involves close collaboration with WQPHN partners, stakeholders, and service providers to design and implement specific programs in a culturally appropriate manner, while building their capacity to address the complex needs of local communities.
The key functions of this role will include:
- To increase access to, and the quality of, Indigenous-specific alcohol and other drug prevention, care and treatment services across Western Queensland.
- To provide a culturally and clinically effective social and emotional wellbeing model of care, acknowledging the Gayaa Dhuwi (Proud Spirit) framework within an integrated stepped care approach for commissioning.
- Assist in the implementation of the WQPHN’s 2021-2026 Mental Health, Suicide Prevention and Alcohol & Other Drug Treatment Services Plan to improve mental health, suicide prevention and alcohol and other drug treatment services in Western Queensland.
The Right Person
The successful candidate will possess:
- Tertiary qualifications and experience in human or health services or equivalent experience greater than 5 years.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of contemporary policies, and evidence-based practices in alcohol and drug service delivery, and evidence-informed program design and service sector development.
- High level project management skills, working with minimal supervision, manage conflicting deadlines and demonstrate effective problem-solving and negotiation skills.
- Advanced interpersonal communication skills to build and maintain relationships with the ability to respectfully engage a range of communities and community leaders.
- Experience in data collection, aggregate data collations, and analysis or similar is essential.
- High level understanding of the social determinants of health, and unique social and emotional well-being needs of regional, remote and rural communities.
- Ability to prepare business communication documents, reports, agendas, minutes, and presentations, with the ability to convey complex ideas and concepts in a clear and engaging manner.
- Competency in Microsoft Office (including SharePoint) and other office productivity tools, with aptitude to learn new software and systems.
- A driver’s licence and competence in driving long distances in rural or remote areas.
Our Working Environment
Ideally, this critical role will be based within the WQPHN region in Longreach, Mount Isa, Winton or Roma; however, applicants are welcome to apply from across the state. Regular travel will be required across the WQPHN patch to successfully perform this role, and hybrid work-from-home arrangements also apply.
