Coordinator – Family, Carer Engagement and Support Uniting NSW & ACT

JOB DESCRIPTION

About the role

This a permanent full-time (35 hours/ week) position that can be located at either the Port Macquarie or Coffs Harbour Family Carer Engagement & Support sites.
– Fortnightly travel across both sites required

This leadership position aims to give a team of consultants the tools, confidence and inspiration to engage with the families and carers of children who are in foster care.

Sitting within Uniting’s Permanency Support Program (PSP), the coordinator is responsible for overseeing and role modelling quality practice when working in partnership with families and carers.

  •  Lead a team of four people across the Mid North Coast, based in Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour
  • Lead a team of consultants who promote child safety by promoting the strength and resilience of carers, parents and families
  • Lead a team of consultants who aim to support foster and kinship carers by delivering high-quality education
  • Lead a team of consultants who aim to find, engage and encourage parents and families of children in care
  • Oversees a program that aims to engage and motivate all people in the network of children in care
  • Part of a broader State-wide leadership team that supports carers, parents and family members
  • Requires frequent time in Uniting’s Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour offices

 
About you in the role

  • Relevant child-related or social welfare related tertiary qualification
  • A passionate interest in creating systems which underpin child safety and wellbeing
  • Ability to use data and information to organise a team’s priorities and day-to-day workload
  • Flexibility to shift focus to urgent matters as they arise, including travel between MNC offices
  • Interest in working alongside the parents and families of children in care
  • A natural positive influence which could help foster and kinship carers feel confident to engage in ongoing training and development
  • Ability to work relatively autonomously, whilst providing confidence and inspiration to a MNC team
  • Enjoyment of creating special events for communities of foster & kinship carers
  • A natural affinity with delivering presentations, talking publicly and inspiring communities of people
  • Enjoyment of using social media, and other communication channels, to promote a feeling of connection between communities
  • Confidence in meeting with, and supporting, individuals who have experienced trauma, grief and loss
  • Able to work across both Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour sites

  • Accredited in Step by Step Assessment Tools
  • A thorough knowledge of the principles that underpin Child Safe Organisations
  • A knowledge of, and experience in, Permanency Support Programs
  • An understanding of permanency goals including restoration, guardianship and adoption
  • Demonstrated investigative skills, particularly in relation to locating estranged family members
  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams
  • Skills and qualifications in delivering adult education
  • Previous experience in creating and disseminating high-quality communications to large groups via email, newsletters, brochures and face to face presentations
