Overview
The Living Room is a new low barrier peer-led mental health service, which aims to promote wellbeing and mental health through early discussion and intervention, whilst offering peer-based conversation and communication of ECU supports and services.

The Living Room aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for students to share their experiences with a student peer adviser. The space is used as a wellbeing centre, for health promotion, early identification, support and/ or referral for students who may be experiencing early mental health impacts, challenges or wellbeing concerns.

The Living Room at ECU, will focus on collaborating across all university student service points, for the implementation of a seamless student experience and excellent student service standards.

The role
The Coordinator, The Living Room has responsibilities for the oversight and management of The Living Room, the Peer Support Advisors, and for the provision of mental health services, student wellbeing, support, and health promotion activities within The Living Room and the University community as and when required.

This role is vital within the context of ensuring all related mental health support and peer training is in keeping with best practice, university strategies, and processes for the provision of mental health support to students, in alignment with the ECU Psychological Counselling Support, Health Services and other student services.

The Coordinator will complete comprehensive mental health assessments, case notes and referral records, to meet reporting and data collection requirements.

Qualifications
Tertiary qualification in a relevant health discipline (Registered Nurse (Mental Health), Occupational Therapist, Psychologist, Social Worker), and full unrestricted registration with AHPRA or AASW.

Essential criteria

  1. Proven expertise in the application of evidence based clinical practice within the mental health field in a therapeutic role, leadership and/or case management.
  2. Knowledge, skills, and experience in carrying out detailed psychosocial mental health and risk assessment.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of mental illness, trauma informed approaches, recovery, and suicide prevention models, with a focus on a person-centred approach.
  4. Experience of working with people in crisis.
  5. Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge and experience in the facilitation, delivery and implementation of health promotion and/or mental health education programs and relevant experience facilitating skills development to others.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with a diverse range of people and internal and external stakeholders.
  7. Experience providing clinical supervision and/or support for other staff, or peer based roles.

Desirable Criteria

  1. Experience in higher education or understanding of contemporary mental health issues relevant to the higher education sector.

This fixed-term, full-time position attracts a remuneration of $97,113 to $108,813 per annum plus 17% superannuation.
