JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Salary of $60,771.63 plus Super during the 8 week training program. Upon successful completion of the training, your annual salary will increase to $78,405.82 + Overtime + Super.

About the role of a Correctional Officer:

  • Maintaining the safety, security and good order of the prison, all staff, partners, visitors, offenders and the facility itself.
  • Supervision of offenders.
  • Case Management – You will also be responsible for contributing to and monitoring / reporting on prisoner rehabilitation activities, encouraging prisoners to establish goals for themselves and to begin engaging in positive behavioural change.
  • Conducting daily searches and musters.
  • Locate and remove illegal and restricted substances whilst undertaking searches.
  • Undertake all custody related administrative duties.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Managing inductions and transfers of prisoners.
  • Assisting and supervising visitations.
  • Writing comprehensive reports all whilst continually upholding the safety and security of all persons both within the prison and the prison itself.

  • Must be available to work 24/7 shift work (including nights and weekends).

Our recruitment process is extremely robust and will include things like:

  • An online, self-paced interview.
  • Group information session onsite at Port Phillip Prison.
  • A face-to-face formal interview onsite at Port Phillip Prison.
  • High level physical and mental health assessment conducted in-person by Recovery Partners.
  • Police check including fingerprints conducted in-person at VicPol Docklands.
  • Verification of your most recent 2 years of employment history.
