Counsellor – Alcohol and Other Drugs

Goldfields Rehabilitation Services Inc. provide a holistic and supervised Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Service in an alcohol and other drug free environment for residents over the age of 18 years who have been affected by alcohol and or other drug dependency.

GRSI offers a comprehensive program and case management service to enable our clients to get their lives back on track, including outreach and transitional housing for graduates of the program. Our service has recently expanded to include a medically supervised detoxification unit. 

We are currently seeking a suitably qualified Counsellor to work across alcohol and other drugs and mental health services.

The successful applicant will be required to meet following essential criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or equivalent
  • Experience of working with substance misuse issues and a clear understanding of the need for and ability to deliver quality services
  • Ability to deal with unpredictable situations and behaviour
  • Ability to work in a team environment, as well as with minimal supervision
  • Experience of supporting the delivery of community opiate/alcohol detoxification
  • Experience in dealing with internal and external queries with a customer service focus
  • Knowledge of the issues facing substance users including social care, health issues, welfare benefits, emergency accommodation and appropriate medical interventions
  • Demonstrated counselling and crisis intervention skills
  • Current knowledge and commitment to Equal Opportunity in all aspects of employment and service delivery
  • First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain

Applications able to also meet the following desirable criteria will be looked upon favourably;

  • Experience in delivering evidence based psychosocial interventions on both a group and one-to-one basis
  • Ability to facilitate community therapeutic groups and educational groups
  • Knowledge of community based support / outreach practices
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of working with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse client groups
  • Understanding of the Aboriginal people and culture of the Goldfields region

Appointment prerequisites for successful applicants will include the following;

  • 100 point identification check
  • Successful criminal record screening clearance
  • Successful working with children check
  • Current C class drivers license
