About us:
Baptist Care SA works collaboratively with South Australians
from all walks of life. We provide Camping and Adventure Programs, Disability
Services, Homelessness Services, Out of Home Care and Youth, Family and
Community Programs. We are committed to finding a way forward for everyone we
serve and supporting them to achieve their life goals. We find ways to make
people’s lives better.
About the role – 30.4 hours per fortnight (Mondays &
Thursdays), max term contract until 30 June 2024
Tumbelin Farm is an intensive residential adventure therapy
program for 16–21-year-olds whose use of alcohol and other drugs (AOD) is
having a negative impact on their life and are seeking to make a change. It is an
early intervention program working within an adventure therapy framework to
overcome their challenges with drug and alcohol use. The counsellor
engages with the young person and their circle of support at the point of
referral to engage them in family group conferencing and decision making, assisting
them to develop a community re-engagement program. This is not
your traditional counselling role, day to day you will be situated on the farm (10
minutes outside of Mt Barker) working alongside a multi-disciplinary team,
including the program lead and case manager, Adventure Therapy Practitioners
and the Farm Supervisor.
Your duties include but not limited to:
- Facilitate the intake process including
interviews of perspective clients to the program - Connect and engage with at least 2 people in an
outreach setting to establish a circle of support (COS) for each young person
(e.g. family members, significant others, etc) - Provide 1:1 counselling sessions, and plan and
deliver group sessions to residential clients - Coordinate Tumbelin Alumni activities, including
the provision of lived experience support to other young people and their COS
members who have been referred to Tumbelin Farm
About you:
You take pride in your ability to create connections with
those around you. Outside of 1:1’s and group work, you embrace the day-to-day activities
that the residents participate in on the farm, and you relish in the chance to
further build your connections by supporting them in this. You are someone who
has a deep understanding of the complex needs and behaviours that our clients
have, including the comorbid nature of AOD addiction, mental health and
trauma. You love the great outdoors, and the prospects of a unique working
in environment like a working farm, ticks all the boxes for you.
You will also have the following skills and experience:
- Relevant degree qualification and/or a diploma
with demonstrated experience (minimum 3 years) in social work, psychology, education,
counselling, youth work, adventure therapy or a related field - Minimum Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drug
Counselling (or willingness to work towards this or an equivalent
qualification) - Understanding or experience in Adventure Therapy
programs - Demonstrated experience or a well-developed
understanding of working within a Restorative Practice framework - Demonstrated experience in
