Counsellor Family Violence for Adults – Kew Relationships Australia Victoria

JOB DESCRIPTION

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, experienced family violence counsellor to join Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV).  

RAV is a secular, community-based, not-for-profit organisation with no religious affiliations who have been providing services to the Victorian community for over 70 years.  Our vision is for “positive, respectful, safe and fulfilling relationships for all Australians”.  RAV provides services from centres across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. 

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Manager Southern and Eastern Melbourne, your responsibilities include delivery of the adult family violence counselling component of the “Child and Adult Person Experiencing Family Violence Counselling Program” which provides trauma-informed and culturally appropriate short-term interventions and referral for adults and children. 

Counselling will be provided in 50-minute sessions and can include therapeutic work and targeted case management, where required. Interventions need to be trauma informed, culturally responsive and secure to support engagement, and reduce the re-traumatisation of women experiencing family violence.

This role is located in Kew, is a permanent, part-time position working three (3) days per week.

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, counselling, family therapy or a related field.
  • Significant demonstrated experience working with individuals and families, from strength-based perspective, in a setting relevant to the role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven organisation skills with the ability to prioritise and manage own workload to meet timeframes and job-related expectations.
  • Understanding of MARAM Framework, Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme, and Child Information Sharing Scheme would be deemed advantageous.
