Counsellor – Freedom

Maximum term contract up to 30 June 2024

1x Part-time (0.6 FTE) opportunity

(with extension depending on funding)

The opportunity

This position is responsible for the provision of individual support to LGBTIQA+ young people (12 – 25 years) through a client-focused, trauma-informed practice lens. The Freedom Counselling program supports young people through face-to-face or telehealth appointments in the Perth metro area as well as via telehealth state-wide, providing the only service of its kind in Western Australia.

Reporting to the Coordinator – Freedom, you will be supporting young LGBTIQA+ people (12-25 years) and promoting linkages between the primary care, vocational/education and social recovery sectors and includes youth engagement, screening, counselling, referral, advocacy and care coordination.

About you

You are a highly-skilled, seriously passionate and qualified counsellor with experience working with young people in managing their mental health and wellbeing. Your experience working with Aboriginal people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and people who are of diverse sexuality and gender will be advantageous. 

Your past involvement in not-for-profit community services sectors will be viewed favourably, ideally with experience in the delivery of sexual health and blood-borne virus services.

While this role is to support LGBTIQA+, all people are welcome to apply. Applicants do not need to identify as LGBTIQA+ to apply for this role.
