About the Counsellor – Gamblers Help role

If you enjoy variety in your day, and working closely with other service delivery professionals, you might be exactly the person we’re looking for! In your new role as Counsellor, you will be providing professional therapeutic counselling and support to people adversely affected by gambling as well as providing Gambler’s Help services to the wider community to improve access for service users.

This part-time (0.6 FTE), ongoing position will work across the Yarra Ranges with hybrid working conditions offered. There is an expectation to complete after-hours appointments for clients as required.

Who we’re looking for
In addition to a passion and drive to support people within the community, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology or Social Work or related disciplines are required.
  • Demonstrated competence in an area of clinical practice, preferably in a multidisciplinary team context and with clients with multiple or complex needs.
  • Previous experience in the not-for-profit sector or an appreciation and understanding of community organisations and their operation.
  • Applicants must be eligible for membership/registration with APS (AHPRA), AASW or PACFA.

What you’ll be doing
The Counsellor will be required to undertake a range of activities including but not limited to:

  • Providing intake assessment and information to clients contacting the service.
  • Providing individual, couples and/or family counselling sessions to clients both over the phone and in-person.
  • Arranging appropriate referrals for clients to other services as required.
  • Identifying and documentation of systemic issues and trends arising from the casework.
  • Assertive engagement and pro-active follow up with all clients at agreed intervals to encourage and maintain service engagement, as well as other indirect client services.
  • Participation in local community and state-wide activities and projects.

Who you’ll be working with
Our Gambler’s Help Eastern service offers support, advice, and information to people affected by gambling (both gamblers and non-gamblers) and to the broader community. The role is located within an Area Based Integrated Service Team (IST), offering multi-disciplinary team responses and service offerings to consumers and clients across the Eastern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne.
