JOB DESCRIPTION

Counsellor/Group worker

  • Providing both Counselling and Group work within our male only, Transitional Housing hostel.
  • Can be flexible with hours from 20-40 hours per week to suit.
  • Requires someone with experience in either Addictions, Mental health, or Corrections type of services

About the business:

The Addington Hostel has been providing housing for men for 126 years in Christchurch at this Addington Hostel location. This Housing service is unique in offering onsite 24-hour staff support including Caseworkers, Nurses, Support Workers and Counsellors across the day. This provides an opportunity for the men to move towards permanent housing in the community while addressing some of their ongoing issues while they are here.

The Counselling/Group worker role is a recent addition to the team in providing both 1:1 counselling along with undertaking focused groups across the week. This has proved to be valuable in the wrap-around care we can provide.

Your responsibilities will be the following:

  • To provide a set number of groups across the week
  • To provide 1:1 counselling sessions across the week
  • To support the Caseworkers and Support workers in their daily work
  • Be part of the weekly case reviews

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Must have a NZ approved degree in Counselling, Social Work, Addictions or Allied Health
  • Must have NZ registration with NZAC, SWRB, Dappanz or other recognised NZ registration process or willing to get this within three months
  • At least one year experience in a related field of work which can include placements
  • Be willing to work with a male only client group in a unique community environment
  • Able comfortable in both counselling and group work and able to move between them both

This role is permanent/full or part-time and hours worked will be between 20-40 hours per week.

The starting salary for this role will fall between $65,000 and $75,000

The starting hourly rate for this role will fall between $31.71 and $36.30
