Counsellor Mater Dei College

JOB DESCRIPTION

About the Role: 

Mater Dei College has the opportunity for a part-time, permanent Counsellor to become an integral part of the College’s Wellbeing Service and Pastoral Team for 2024. 

We are seeking a vibrant, passionate, understanding and friendly individual who is committed to creating a welcoming and positive environment for students to feel comfortable discussing their academic, social, emotional and behavioural concerns.   

The Counsellor will be in attendance 3 days per week, 8:00am to 4:00pm for 41 weeks per year. 

The Counsellor will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are inclusive of, but not limited to:  

  • Providing individual and group counselling to students to address academic, social, educational, behavioural, and emotional concerns 
  • Responding to and intervening in crisis situations, providing emotional support and coordinating appropriate resources and responses 
  • Assisting in the development, implementation and facilitation of appropriate educational and psycho-educational programs and goals for both parents and students 
  • Working closely with teachers, administrators, Executive and other school staff to support students’ overall development 
  • Developing and fostering strong relationships with students, parents and external agencies to provide the best possible counselling services 
  • Being supportive of the philosophy of Animal Assisted Therapy 

 

About You: 

The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to build a strong foundation of trust and rapport with students, by being attentive, engaged and providing a safe and non-judgemental space. 

The successful applicant additionally will demonstrate clear and effective communication skills to provide information, guidance, support and encouragement to students, parents and other stakeholders whilst supporting the Catholic ethos. 

A high level of organisation, time management and problem-solving skills with the proven ability to work equally well independently and in a team, is highly desirable.

Mater Dei College, Edgewater, is a Catholic Co-educational Secondary College established in 1993 to serve communities in the northern suburbs.
