What you’ll be doing

MNCLHD New Street Service is a NSW Health child protection initiative and part of a developing network of services delivered by Local Health Districts in New South Wales. It provides counselling intervention to families of children and young people (10 – 17 years) who have sexually harmed.

The Counsellor position will contribute to the appropriateness and effectiveness of the New Street Service in meeting the needs of Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Salary will be accordance with NSW Health State Awards for the advertised classification/s.  These awards are available at http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/careers/conditions/pages/default.aspx.

AN ELIGIBILITY LIST FROM THIS RECRUITMENT ACTIVITY MAY BE CREATED FOR FUTURE VACANCIES

  1. Tertiary Degree in Social Work or other equivalent qualification providing eligibility for membership of AASW or Current full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with a four year degree in psychology, being a three year degree with a fourth year honours in psychology, or a qualification deemed equivalent by the employer and have completed a minimum of one year at the 9th year of service and thereafter point on the salary scale for Psychologist.
  2. Demonstrated ability to provide counselling services to individuals, and families in the context of child sexual assault, trauma, violence and abuse.
  3. Understanding of intergenerational trauma, child sexual abuse and the principles of family focussed intervention, with the ability to engage with young people who have sexually harmed and with their families, including Aboriginal children and families.
  4. Demonstrated understanding of the legal and policy framework governing child protection in NSW.
  5. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
  6. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  7. Accreditation or willingness to undertake and maintain accreditation with the Child Sex Offender Counsellor Accreditation Scheme administered by the NSW Children’s Guardian.
  8. Valid unrestricted drivers licence for use in NSW/Australia and willingness to travel in the course of employment, including overnight stays as required.
