Northern Rivers Women and Children’s Services Inc. (NORWACS) is seeking a Counsellor for Lismore Women’s Health and Resource Centre www.lismorewomen.org.au

About the Role

The Counselling position: up to 28 hours per week on a permanent part time basis. Performance will be assessed within 3 months of commencement and a 6-month probationary qualifying period will also apply.

About You

  • You have a strong commitment to feminist principles and the ability to apply these to your work practice.
  • You have a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counselling and/or related behavioural sciences with substantial experience; or associate diploma level qualifications with substantial experience in the relevant service stream. Membership of a professional association or eligibility to obtain membership to the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA).
  • You are compassionate, empathetic, respectful, trustworthy and self-aware. These attributes are required to effectively engage in the trauma informed care approach and to build strong relationships which enhance healing and recovery. 
  • You have highly advanced listening and interpersonal communication skills with experience in maintaining clinical notes and report writing. 
  • You are organised and an adept problem solver. 
  • You are confident in establishing a psychologically safe environment and the ability to maintain clear professional boundaries.

NORWACS has been working with women in the Northern Rivers community since the 1980s first starting out as a women and children’s refuge. Current services include the Lismore Women’s Health and Resource Centre, Heartfelt House: support for women survivors of childhood sexual abuse; WISE: Women in Social Enterprise and WORTH: Women’s OutReach Trauma Health service.
