St Joseph’s Nudgee College (Est. 1891) is a Catholic Boys’ Day and Boarding school in the Edmund Rice tradition for Years 5-12, with a student population of 1720. The College is a member of the GPS Association and focuses upon providing a balanced holistic education for all. College staff are invited to participate in the College’s extensive cultural, social justice and sport programs.
We are seeking an experienced Counsellor to join our Student Services counselling team. This role is suitable for an enthusiastic, dedicated professional with strong experience as a Counsellor or Psychologist.
The role is part of the Student Formation team that supports the students during their College journey and guides them as they develop into young men. This role supports both our Day and Boarding Students.
Core duties
- Provide confidential counselling, consulting and proactive services for students and their families around personal, social, emotional and educational needs.
- Support the College in Child Protection, Student Welfare and Critical Incident Management matters.
- Consultant to the Principal, Dean of Students and Dean of Boarding on the mental health, educational, personal welfare and family needs of students.
Hours of work
- Full time, 5 days a week.
- Work during school terms only, 38 weeks work, 14 weeks paid leave.
This is a 12 months Fixed Term contract covering the incumbent who is taking leave.
Mandatory Requirements
This position requires the applicant to be qualified in their field and registered with their professional body.
Desired Requirements
- Experience in providing psychological services to school aged young people (10 to 18 years old) and their families.
- Working as part of a team in a youth based setting.
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience and competence as a Counsellor / Psychologist to young people, preferably boys.
- Proven ability to work productively and collaboratively as a part of a team to achieve goals.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and evaluate programs.
- Be professionally competent, ensuring day-to-day behaviours and personal presentation reflect the College’s values and professional expectations.
- Demonstrated commitment to goals and aims of Catholic education in the tradition of Edmund Rice.
