Job Title: Counsellor (Part-Time)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Counsellor to join our team in providing support and guidance to individuals in need. As a Counsellor, you will be responsible for conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and delivering therapeutic interventions. Your role will primarily focus on assisting clients in addressing personal issues, improving mental well-being, and promoting positive coping strategies.

The role

You will be part of our specialist disability service that puts people first and offers counselling, education, consultation and professional development around sexual health and relationships. You will provide counselling to people with disability/ neurodiversity around issues related to sexuality, relationships and well-being. You will be supported by in-house individual and group supervision and professional development and training. Your role is well supported by the manager of disability counselling, and other counselling staff as well as our amazing and dedicated administration team. You will work closely with the SHQ clinic and counselling service, health promotion and education team. Your practice will be ethical and client-centred and align with SHQ’s vision and values.

Your Skills, Knowledge, Abilities and Experience

Minimum 2 years’ experience working with people with disability.

Knowledge of and ability to draw on and integrate a variety of theoretical frameworks in counselling/therapy.

A commitment to exploration of your own responses and process in the counselling relationship.

Thorough knowledge of human sexuality and diversity, understanding of cultural differences and individual personal values, attitudes, and beliefs.

Able to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people, to develop and maintain professional therapeutic relationships, and share ideas successfully, including succinct and accurate reporting.

Experience in developing and delivering professional training or group therapy programmes.

Your qualifications and/or other requirements

Relevant tertiary Qualifications in Psychology, a Diploma of Counselling or equivalent

Current registration with relevant professional agency.

Current Working with Children check

A National Police Clearance no older than 6 months from date of issue.

NDIS Workers screening check and completion of relevant NDIS modules.

Current certificate of immunisation and or evidence of immunity for (Hepatitis B, Influenza, Pertussis, Measles Mumps and Rubella, Varicella).

Current certificate of immunisation for COVID-19.
