Generalist Counsellor

About The Role The Generalist Counsellor is part of a team that ensures the delivery of timely, clinically sound mental health advice to students in face-to-face and e-modes of consultation to facilitate the personal, emotional, social and education transition and adjustment of students. Individual counselling has an emphasis on brief outcome informed interventions.

This role is required to provide advice and support to Wodonga TAFE staff community in connection with student issues.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor in Social Work, Psychology or related discipline in counselling and education; or less formal qualifications with substantial counselling and education experience.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership of relevant professional bodies such as AASW, APS or ACWA with the incumbent responsible for maintaining their own external professional supervision (if applicable)
  • Generalist case management and counselling across a diverse cohort from youth and families to CALD, Indigenous and other minority groups
  • Child Safety Officer and up to date knowledge of legislation

About You Duties: • Maintain excellence in customer service and provide assessment case-management, counselling and referral of Wodonga TAFE students including students in high-risk situations and with complex mental health concerns. • Design and deliver Child Safe Training to our Child Safe Contact Officers and the POC Family Violence Officer • Deliver a consultancy service to teaching staff and other staff responsible for student support including specialist advice, guidance and support in relation to student issues and concerns, and make recommendations based professional expertise and judgement. • Support and mentor peers on counselling and welfare related issues to ensure the overall provision of effective counselling services. • Develop and deliver mental health and wellbeing webinars, workshops and resources.
