The Women’s Activities and Self Help (WASH) House is a community-based information and resource centre for women that envisages a community in which women exercise equal rights, choose their own destiny and have a safe environment for themselves and their children. They work towards this by providing information and referral, advocacy, capacity building and support services.
The organisation has been established in the area for over 35 years as a support and resource centre for women. Over this time, the WASH House has grown and evolved to run a range of programs including Staying Home Leaving Violence, Counselling, Case Work, Group Work and Information Services.

About the opportunity…
The National Redress Scheme is in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, you can find more information here https://www.nationalredress.gov.au/
This role assists in building the capacity of clients to tell their story, leading to their application for The Redress Scheme. This will include comprehensive client centred and family focused counselling that assesses individuals needs when seeking support for sexual abuse whilst institutionalised. You will provide an informed approach to support women through providing information and support on understanding clients rights to make informed decisions and take them through the Redress program.
The role is Part Time at 28hrs per week based in Mt Druitt. Salary for this role is classified at level 5 in the NSW SCHADS Award (Pay Point to be determined based on experience).
About you…
You will be a passionate woman with sound experience in case management and trauma as well as a proven ability to support women with complex needs. Your experience will also include advocacy & referral, networking and group work facilitation.
Selection Criteria…
- Relevant Tertiary Qualifications e.g.: Psychology, Counselling or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience of 2 years’ experience in trauma informed clinical care/ project management
- Knowledge of trauma informed techniques
- Demonstrated high level communication and negotiation skills including ability to produce written reports and facilitating group work
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities
- Sensitivity to working with women from diverse cultural backgrounds and ages
- Knowledge and understanding of social policy and issues that face women in Western Sydney
- Conceptual skills, with sound analytical and problem solving ability
- Networking skills and capacity to engage others and build effective partnerships
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Current driver’s licence
Please note, this workplace has committed to keeping their staff and vulnerable clients safe so have a mandatory COVID vaccination policy for all employees in place so the person in this role would be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 (3 doses).
