Counsellor Yorgum Healing Services

JOB DESCRIPTION

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.

ABOUT US:

Yorgum was established in 1991 by a group of Aboriginal women, some of whom worked in women’s refuges, who were  concerned about the lack of appropriate counselling support for Aboriginal people experiencing spiritual, emotional and psychological pain. They founded a service with a ‘healing’ approach rather than an ongoing, crisis-driven ‘patch-up’ approach.

Yorgum offers all Aboriginal people and their families autonomous, community based healing services that are culturally secure, trauma-informed and work within an Aboriginal Family Worldview.

The Role:

This position is responsible for providing targeted trauma-informed, culturally appropriate counselling services to support Indigenous Australians with disability, their families and carers.

SELECTION Criteria:

To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate the following experience and abilities:

  • A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling with supervised clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing culturally secure, trauma informed counselling to people with a disability affected by trauma and abuse.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging with and building strong working relationships with clients and relevant stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft applications and database management.
  • Be able to travel as required.

How to apply:

If you have the relevant skills and experience, email your application (claims against the selection criteria) and resume to:  [email protected]

Unsolicited referrals from recruitment agencies will not be accepted

Applications close: Monday 3 October 2022, AWST 4.00pm

Yorgum is committed to the protection of children and young people.

If you require this information in an alternative format, please contact us.

Only short listed applicants will be contacted.
