Your New Role
As a Crisis Intervention Counsellor, you will provide domestic and family violence support services to Queensland women through information and referral, crisis counselling, safety planning, advocacy and providing safe accommodation and travel.
You will be responsible for making professionals assessments of caller needs and taking all reasonable action to meet these needs within the operating framework and principles of DVConnect.
Our Crisis Intervention Counsellors also respond to incoming calls on the Queensland Sexual Assault line and at times on DVConnect’s Mensline.
What we’re looking for
- Tertiary Qualification (of minimum 3 years duration) in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or relevant field
- OR other relevant qualifications with substantial experience in the domestic and family violence sector
- Demonstrated ability in working with women who have experienced domestic and family violence preferably within in a crisis context
- Demonstrated understanding of feminist practice and how this is used as a framework to understand and respond to the gendered nature of violence against women and children
- 2+ years’ experience in the community sector
- Solid IT skills
- High level of resilience and good self-care practices in place to support working in an environment that can be challenging and demanding at times
- It is a genuine requirement of this position that it be filled by a woman as permitted in sections 25, 104 and 105 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
