Ballarat Community Health and headspace Ballarat are seeking an experienced Youth Worker, with lived experience of cultural diversity, to work with young people from CALD backgrounds.
Reporting to the Headspace Centre Manager, you will support young people aged 12-25 and their families and carers, who have culturally diverse backgrounds to access headspace in a developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive and welcoming way.

headspace Ballarat is a youth friendly, community-based health and wellbeing service for young people aged 12-25 and their families. It is a place where young people can receive help for physical health needs, education & employment, mental health support and alcohol & other drug issues. All services are provided free of charge. The support offered builds the resilience and future potential of young people, by delivering effective and innovative services in partnership with the local community. The opportunity:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Youth Worker who is passionate about working with young people with a culturally diverse background
You will work directly with young people from a culturally and linguistically diverse background in a clinical capacity to provide assessment, referral and evidence based mental health treatment. The role will also participate within the community to engage culturally and linguistically diverse young people and their families, as well as cultural communities and community stakeholders.
This role is important in supporting our youth to be mentally healthy and engaged in their communities. Drawing from your own lived experience of cultural diversity, you will work closely with young individuals to provide unique insights, mentorship, and support in their personal growth, intercultural understanding, and social development, emphasising the importance of diversity, inclusivity, and respect.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds, their families and communities.
- Minimum Certificate IV in Youth Work, Community Services or related field
- Experience in assessment and provision of mental health support to young people
- Highly developed engagement skills, with a connection to Ballarat’s cultural communities
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent problem-solving ability
